Below are just a few of the resource links that have inspired me for my audio slideshow. The list will be updated and extended in due course.
This audio slideshow on Tommy Goodwin, former Olympic cyclist in 1948 really inspired me and gave me some new ideas. Near the start of the slideshow there were some old photos of his medals. One of the questions I asked my interviewee was for him to name his achievements but I didn’t take any images of them. So seeing Tommy’s bronze medals as he was naming his achievements reminded me to take some images of my interviewee’s achievements. As I’ve already stated in my previous posts, I have all my images. However, I plan to take some more on my interviewee’s medals, awards etc.
So, as it stands I have my images and audio ready to start putting together. The only problem is during the interview the weather was terrible so I experienced difficulty recording. The room was ok, however due to the rain it fed into the recording which was a big shame. I will probably have to do the interview again. Luckily enough, my interviewee understands the situation and has agreed to give it another shot. Having said that, I’ve spent the whole of last week taking various images of Byron so I’ve gotten to know him a little and his personality. From what I gathered, he has an amazing character, gets along with everyone and is liked by all. However, during the interview this did not come across or at least in part. During the week I had with him taking the images, we had many conversations with him and the nature of it all was very casual and normal. I felt the moment he saw the kit i.e. the microphone etc. he slightly put on an “act” and I could tell that it wasn’t really genuine, particularly at the start of the interview when he was introducing himself. We ended having to do up to 5 takes before we actually did the interview. I had to brief him over the Q & As etc. He was wearing a silky jacket which I kindly asked if he could take it off as it was feeding into the microphone whenever he moved.
I guess its good we’ve had a run through and seen where the strong points and weak points are. Hopefully, the next one should run smoothly. Unfortunately, the weather this week is predicted rain all week yet again but we’ll see what the turn out is.
So, with regards to the images I took, I wanted to show the training side and his human side. So overall, you have a combination of Byron training (alongside his training partner) and times where he’s having a laugh with colleagues.
Over the last two days I have been taking multiple images with athlete, Byron Robinson at Brunel Sports Hall. The images consists of various work outs and training sets. I plan to carry the interview either tomorrow or on Thursday. Also to my coincidence, the famous Linford Christie happens to be his coach. However, he is currently out of the country. I’m working on recording an interview via Skype to get his views on Byron. I feel this would add value and credit to the overall audio and Linford being an influential figure is certainly a potential interviewee worth capturing.
In terms of wildtrack, I’m not quite sure what angle to take and what kind of wildtrack to gather if there is even any. Anyway, this is where I’m at. I want to start editing and arranging the order of images hopefully by the weekend, latest by the start of next week to give myself enough time to work on the nitty gritty of things.
So I took a visit to the sports hall at Brunel University last Friday (14.04.2012) and was told the athletes train on Monday – Friday between 10.30am – 12.00pm. I turned up around quarter past three which was too late and was given permission by the receptionist to come in on Monday and speak to one of the athletes if they were willing to be interviewed. I do hope that I get a good speaker who is competent to effectively communicate their story. Ultimately, this is the goal and this is what I’m after.

Hey my fellow creative friends!
For my next assessment, I went out for a walk one friday afternoon and came up with a list of ideas which I later wrote down on a piece of A4 paper. One of the strongest ideas was All Souls Church down in Regent Street, London. For those who are unfamiliar with the location, its a renowned church located in-front of Broadcasting House which has an amazing pyramid-looking architecture to it. The essence of the idea is go through the history of the architectural building plan of the church and how it was developed.
2 days later, I thought of another idea. I was walking by a sports halls at Brunel University where apparently, people train for London’s 2012 Olympic games. I stood beside the hall for a couple of seconds and thought to myself, ‘I can make an interesting audio slideshow that looks into the life of say one of the athletes and talk to them about their aspirations and hopes for what they are training for, the motivation behind it etc. At present, this is the idea I intend to work on. I have a few friends who study at Brunel and one in-particular knows some people who train at the sports ground and to contact them. My friend said people train normally on Fridays and Sundays so I intend to go down this coming Friday, 13 April and see the outcome.
I’ll do my absolute best to keep you updated on the progress; must say its been ages since my last post.
Have fun and enjoy the easter festive season!!!
ATM my idea is to develop a brand-new website for Logan Sama. Briefly, the website’s menu consists of Broadcast Shows, Videos and News. Under ‘Broadcast Shows’ will be content from the live show which will be available for a 7-day period; each show will have the tracklisting attached to it and each track will have an embedded buy link on it where you can buy the actual commercial track (however this may change). The ‘Video Section’ is basically a developed extension of the YouTube channel: Keepin it Grimy but will be structured in a manner that makes the user experience easy and enjoyable. On the YouTube channel if you want to find a particular video from for e.g. 2008, unless you’re not familiar with the title, you would have to scroll all the way down (since the most up-to-date content is at the top) to the date until you find the video. The website will have archive material by year/ month. There will be year categories i.e.2006, 2007 etc. and when you click on a year it will open with a list of months and the videos files will be contained in each month. The website will also have a ‘News’ section with editorial content on events, the live shows etc. The news will be available as a free service to subscribe to via a Facebook app or straight to your email (TBC).
So, this is a general outline of my idea to the best of my knowledge. Time to do further research! I must say I’m feeling quite confident about this idea, considering I had no ideas on Friday. I also have a passion for the show and the music so that helps to add a sensation to the talk when pitching it.
This link is relevant and relates to the idea development we’re currently working on for this Friday.
This is a really good resource link on how the Internet is transforming the traditional medium of radio. It has some really good videos from people in the industry.
